Can You Really End Snoring for $80?

by / / Tips

If you’re a snorer, you are probably desperate for a solution that will end the problem. After all, you will sleep better if you stop snoring, and so will your partner.

While there are plenty of inexpensive devices that promise to help, you may be wondering if they actually work. Some obvious issues that you may think of are that maybe they can move your tongue out of the way, but they seem uncomfortable as they might not have a custom fit and can wear out quickly.

On the other end of the spectrum, dentists can make custom snoring devices, but they can be costly. So what are these devices and how do they function?

More importantly, can you really stop snoring for such a small price?

The Claims

There are many devices on the market, but most common is a boil-and-bite, self-molded, oral appliance that claim to stop snoring once and for all.

Marketing claims vary, but most call themselves an effective solution because they combine two or more physical solutions to stop the snoring issue.

How They Work

So what makes one appliance different from the other? Let’s take one example.

The Zyppah is a popular product that claims to stop snoring by a somewhat unique approach. This device utilizes an elastic that holds the tongue in place. One of the causes of snoring is the tongue falling back into the throat which is why snoring is typically worse when you sleep on your back.

This device is supposed to stop the tongue from going back into the throat, and help to keep the airway open during sleep.

The second element that this product utilizes is the same feature that many other snoring solutions purport use to help open the airway. The stated purpose is to position the bottom jaw forward to reduce snoring and improve airflow.

This can usually be effective, however, there are limits to how far you can move the bottom jaw, and for how long the jaw will remain in the ‘correct’ position.

How do you find one of these devices that actually fits your mouth? Most come in one size, ostensibly designed by a dentist to fit ‘most users’. Because many mouths are similar in shape and size, this could work for some.

However, teeth patterns are certainly different for every person. Because of this, some devices like the Zyppah and others contain directions for use that require you to boil the mouthpiece before first use so it can be made moldable to your own mouth.

Do These Devices Help Sleep Apnea?

Unfortunately, these devices are not designed to treat sleep apnea, they’re designed to treat and prevent snoring only.

If you have the life-threatening medical issue of sleep apnea that is yet undetected, then these devices simply prolong your dangerous condition, while giving you false hope of better sleep.

The Sustainable Solution

For a more sustainable sleeping solution to snoring & other sleeping problems, you need a certified medical company that gives you real solutions in sleep management.

While the Zyppah and other similar anti-snoring devices & products may help your snoring temporarily, they are only a bandaid.

The best solution to end snoring is to have a sleep study done to get to the root of the issue. In many cases, there is a deeper problem like sleep apnea to blame, which can be treated with doctor-approved solutions such as CPAP or other proven therapies.
